Casper Rockies announce 2007 field staff

Casper, WY - The Casper Rockies Professional Baseball Club has announced their coaching staff for the 2007 season. The Colorado Rockies Pioneer League affiliate will be managed by Tony Diaz, taking over for long time manager P.J. Carey, who had been with the Rockies for five seasons.

Diaz will begin his eighth season in the Rockies organization, his seventh season with Casper and his first in a managerial role. In 2002, Diaz was named Colorado's Player Development "Man of the Year".

Prior to his arrival with the Colorado Rockies, he coached at Braddock Sr. High School in Miami, FL. Diaz attended Florida International University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in marketing. His playing career ended in 1995 as a shortstop in the Anaheim Angels system. He and his wife, Julie, daughter, Gabriella, and son, Anthony, reside in Tucson, AZ.

Duane Espy will begin his 1st season with the Casper Rockies as the team's coach but his fifth year in the Colorado Rockies organization. Prior to landing the position as coach of the Casper Rockies, Espy served as the hitting coach for the Colorado Rockies. During his time with the Major League club, Espy helped tutor back-to-back batting champions, Preston Wilson in 2003 and Vinny Castilla in 2004. The 2007 campaign will mark his 37th season in professional baseball.

The trainer for the 2007 season will be Billy Whitehead and the pitching coach for the club has yet to be determined.
