Chesapeake Bayhawks News Release
ANNAPOLIS, MD - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced that Casey Powell earned Warrior Offensive Player of the Week in his first appearance of the 2013 season for week 11, which concluded on July 21st. The winners are chosen every week by the MLL, and are based on outstanding in-game achievements.
Powell led the Bayhawks to a 13-12 victory over the Boston Cannons, earning Chesapeake its first overtime win in four tries this season. The long-time veteran competed in his first game of the year, and first since June of 2012. The attackman wasted no time reinserting himself into the picture, earning Player of the Game accolades after a four point performance, including a diving goal at the end of regulation to send the Bayhawks into overtime.
"Casey Powell made a huge impact in his first game and scored an unbelievable tying goal," head coach Dave Cottle stated. "His play was outstanding but his leadership was even better. He also made a tremendous feed to Rubeor earlier in the game. He is a great player who made great plays."
Powell rifled in two other goals, and threw a handful of behind-the-back passes, connecting with Ben Rubeor for a tally early in the fourth quarter. The attackman's 403 career points is second in MLL's record books. The Bayhawks travel to Denver to face the undefeated Outlaws this Saturday, July 27, at 2:00 p.m. (ET) and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
