HYANNIS, Massachusetts - The Cape Cod Bluefins defeated the Brooklyn Aviators 3-2 in overtime on Friday night in Federal Hockey League action at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center.

Dan Gordon netted the game winner with nine seconds left to send the crowd at the HYCC into frenzy.

Casey Mignone scored two goals in the contest for Brooklyn to pace their offense.

The first period did not produce any scoring, however both club's had quality chances in the opening frame. Brooklyn had an early power play opportunity but could not find the back of the net against Bluefins' goaltender, Wes Vesprini.

Cape Cod broke the scoreless tie early in the second at the 2:22 mark after Kevin Matheson wristed a shot under the left arm of Aviators' netminder Pete Dundovich for his first tally of the season. Matheson collected his second goal of the game shortly after on a breakaway, as he snuck the puck under Dundovich's right pad.

Mignone quickly got it right back for the Aviators on his first marker of the season halfway through the second. Mignone made a nice move around the Cape Cod defense and backhanded his shot past the right pad of Vesprini to make the score 2-1. The right-hander found the back of the net in the third period on a quick wrister to tie the game 2-2 on his second of the night.

Dundovich stopped 36 shots in the losing effort for Brooklyn, while Vesprini turned away 33 in the win.
