Cartersville Warriors News Release

Rome, GA - The Cartersville Warriors under 1st year professional coach Cory Baldwin, and fresh of their return from a 12-4 finish to their tour to China, started their 2009 WBA season strong Friday evening on the road against the Rome Rage.

The game pitted Jeremy Law (6'3''-G-82, college: Jacksonville St.) & Bobby Brown (6'6''-F-79) against former Warrior teammates Mike Dean (6'2''-G-82) & Jermaine Spivey (6'3''-G-72). Justin Billingslea (6'10''-F-85) provided an early spark for the Warriors by scoring their first 4 points. After an early see saw battle Rome took a 33-19 lead by the middle of the 2nd quarter led by Jermaine Spivey and Latece Williams (6'8''-F-79). The last 5 minutes of the 1st half Cartersville went on a 12-7 run to pull within 9 at the half, at 40-31.

The 2nd half started with Rome's Dean up to his usual scoring ways hitting on three of his first four shots. Brown provided a spark for the Warriors with two straight steals, but Rome continued to put pressure on the Warriors offensively leventually building a lead by as much as 17 points early in the fourth quarter.

After Head Coach Cory Baldwin called a timeout and pulled the troops together, the Warriors went on a 15-4 run behind aggressive defense and hustle from Tyrone Eboigbe and Andrew Jones. The Warriors constantly double teamed Dean as soon as he touched the ball, to cool off his hot hand and forcing overseas veterans Jermaine Spivey and Latece Williams to carry the load the rest of the way. Late in the fourth quarter, Billingslea's stellar play provided the Warriors with the lead and the 93-85 win.

Billingslea along with Bobby Brown paced the Warriors with 20 points, followed by Chucky Frierson (6'6''-G/F-83) of Cartersville Baseline Warriors with 16, Andrew Jones 11, Kenny Saunders (6'6''-F-82, college: Kennesaw St.) nine and Jeremy Law eight. Rounding out the scoring for the Warriors was Tyrone Eboigbe, who had five, while Marcus Henderson (6'8''-F-79, college: Athens St.) and David Graham (6'4''-G-85, agency: Promotex) each got two.

For Rome Mike Dean led all scorers with 29 points, followed by Latece Williams 22 Jermaine Spivey 20, and the rest of the Rage chipping in 14.

Coaches Corner: Rome Head Coach Sean Perkins said, Your big man (Billingslea) killed us down the stretch, and that the rest of our team has to step up when our big three (Dean, Spivey, & Williams) are constantly being double teamed.

Cartersville Head Coach Cory Baldwin said, We got lucky tonight down the stretch and snuck this win in. We cannot win games if we don't rebound the ball on our defensive end. Williams absolutely killed us on the boards tonight.
