PORT CHARLOTTE--Tuesday night at Charlotte Sports Park, Stone Crabs starter Ryan Carpenter was good. Really good, like the kind of good that the Stone Crabs expect out of one of Bowling Green's best starting pitchers last season.

Carpenter threw five scoreless innings, allowed just four hits and struck out seven Marauders in the Stone Crabs 6-2 win over Bradenton.

"He (Carpenter) was sharp, his breaking ball sharp, he didn't use his change up as much as he has but he worked off his fastball," said Williams. "He pitched into the right handers and did a nice job over five innings."

Carpenter's only jam of the night came in the fourth inning, as he allowed back-to-back hits to Greg Polanco and Jose Osuna. However, Carpenter settled down and struck out the next three hitters--Dan Gamache, Willy Garcia, Jake Stallings--getting out of the innings with no runs scored.

"I never really go out there trying to strike everyone out but in the back of my head that's what was going on," said Carpenter. "I was able to not let the runners score, I used all my pitches well and it worked out."

Four Stone Crabs finished with a mulit-hit game--Hector Guevara, Alejandro Segovia, Curt Casali and Taylor Motter--including a double for Motter, who later scored.

Over the last two games Casali is 4-for-7 at the plate (.571), while Motter leads the team for the season also with a (.571) average.

The offense got back on track but the story of the night was Carpenter, who gave five scoreless innings and a much needed boost to the pitching staff that needed a win after Sunday's 8-1 loss.

"(Carpenter), he's a horse," said Williams. "He can handle the innings, he's proven he can do it. If he can handle the work load, we're going to let him do it."

The Stone Crabs (2-3) send Parker Markel (0-1) to the mound Wednesday against the Marauders (0-5)who counter with Robby Rowland (0-0).
