Mobile BayBears News Release
Zebulon, NC â The Mobile BayBears couldn't muster much of anything against Carolina's starter Denny Bautista on Sunday as they fell in the series finale with the Mudcats, 6-0. Bautista (2-0) has yet to allow a run in two starts for Carolina this season.
The BayBears lost their starter, Cory Stewart in the second inning. Josh Wilson hit a line drive off of Stewart's left hand, causing the left-hander to leave the game. Stewart (7-5) took the unfortunate loss as Wilson would score in the frame as J.J. Trujillo gave up a one-out, two-run triple to Tommy Bost.
"The x-rays came back negative," BayBears manager Craig Colbert said. "He is very sore. Right now he is day-to-day."
Trujillo allowed a single run in the third on a single by Wilson, the third straight two-out hit for the Mudcats in the inning. Carolina put the game away in the fifth as three runners crossed the plate. Adrian Gonzalez singled home Jesus Medrano and Chip Ambres scored two with a double to left.
The BayBears did not have a runner past second base as they could only scratch out five singles in the game, with all five coming in different innings.
Mobile and Carolina will not meet again this season. The BayBears finished 2-9 against the Mudcats.
The BayBears will take Monday off as they travel back home to begin a four-game series against the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. Game one of the series will be Tuesday at 7:05. Steve Watkins (5-4; 4.29) will get the start on the mound for Mobile.
