Huntsville Stars News Release
Chattanooga, TN â It was no Picasso, but it got the job done. All-star Mike Jones walked five and needed 89 pitches to finish five innings, but he gave up just one run. The most important stat: Jones notched his seventh win as Huntsville (6-4) pounded out 10 hits to beat Chattanooga, 8-4, on Saturday night at Bell South Park. With back-to-back wins over the Lookouts (3-8), the Stars took the series, two games to one.
Jones pitched with men in scoring position in each of his five innings, but he stranded eight Lookouts runners, five in scoring position. His five walks equaled a season-high, but he did not allow a single hit with a runner at second or third. Jones (7-2) surrendered but four hits and one unearned run â the result of his own two-base throwing error on an wild pick-off attempt â while fanning one over five innings.
The Stars' offensive onslaught began in the second, when J.J. Hardy blooped a double to left leading off the second. He took third on Brandon Gemoll's groundout and scored on Noochie Varner's sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead. Richard Paz led off the fourth with a single, and one out later consecutive run-scoring doubles by Gemoll and Varner made it 3-0.
Up 3-1 in the seventh, Huntsville seized control of the game. Daryl Clark doubled and took third on Kade Johnson's sacrifice bunt. After pinch-hitter Ryan Knox walked, Dave Krynzel laced a three-run homer to right, his second of the year. Leading 7-2 in the ninth, Johnson capped the Stars' scoring with a monster homerun to left, also his second this season.
Dustin Moseley (5-5) suffered his fifth loss and fourth against Huntsville. Moseley permitted five runs on seven hits and two walks while fanning five over 6 1/3 innings.
Huntsville returns home for a three-game set with Birmingham. The Stars pit all-star lefty Luis Martinez (7-4, 2.37) against Barons righty Enemencio Pacheco (5-2, 2.64). Game time is 6:05 for Turn Back the Clock Night at Joe Davis Stadium. Both teams will wear vintage jerseys, with Huntsville donning uniforms identical to those worn by the championship team in their inaugural season of 1985. The jerseys will be auctioned off during the game, and throwback prices will be in effect: $1.00 general admission, $1.00 hot dogs, $1.00 sodas and $1.00 programs.
