LITTLE ROCK - Kyle Hald and two relievers combined on six-hitter as the Springfield Cardinals sent the Arkansas Travelers to a 3-0 defeat at Dickey-Stephens Park on Wednesday night. Hald (5-1) worked 6.2 innings allowing four hits to earn his second win over the Travs. Patrick Wisdom hit a two-run homer (6) to secure all the offense Springfield needed to even the four-game series with the Travs at 1-1.

Michael Roth (4-4) took his first loss in six starts on a night where he still finished six innings. The Cardinals scored three runs on Roth on eight hits and a walk while he struck out three.

Roth fell behind the Cards in the second inning when Wisdom followed a single by Jonathan Rodriguez with a line drive home run to left field.

Rodriguez knocked in Springfield's third run in the third inning with an RBI single to score Cody Stanley from second base. Stanley had hit a leadoff single and advanced on a base hit by Chris Swauger.

Roth set down 10 of the last 12 batters he faced before handing the ball to the bullpen. Buddy Boshers, Nick Maronde and Michael Brady each threw one scoreless inning.

The Travs stranded nine runners on Wednesday and went down in order in only one inning. They only collected one extra-base hit, a double by Eric Stamets in the fifth inning, and left three runners in scoring position.

Hald left in the seventh inning after issuing a two-out walk to Maikol Gonzalez, which brought the tying run to bat. Lee Stoppelmanm got Drew Heid to fly out to deep left to end the threat.

Stoppelman pithced around a two-out single from Adam Melker for a scoreless eighth inning.

Justin Wright earned the save (4) with a scoreless ninth inning, although he did allow a double by Kaleb Cowart. Cowart was thrown out at third base attempting a triple.

The loss knocked the Travs under .500 again at 28-29, but with the Tulsa Drillers win at NW Arkansas, the Travs now fall four games out with 13 games to play in the first half.

Time of game was 2:51 and the paid attendance was 3,289.

The third of this four-game series is set for 7:10 p.m. Thursday night. Nate Smith (1-0, 3.75) makes his third start for the Travs while Springfield counters with Sam Gaviglio (2-8, 6.47).
