Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
Jupiter, FL - Breyvic Valera and Charlie Tilson extended their league-leading hitting streaks, Marco Gonzales turned in a quality start, but the Palm Beach Cardinals couldn't get going offensively, falling 5-0 to the Bradenton Marauders on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium. The Cardinals (6-6) have dropped three straight games, including both games in the series with Bradenton.
Gonzales (1-1) surrendered five runs - three earned - on nine hits over 6.2 innings in his second start of the year. The southpaw issued three free passes while fanning five, and took his first professional loss.
The Marauders (7-5) jumped on Gonzales early, loading the bases in the second and third innings. Bradenton used four hits and three Palm Beach errors to build a 4-0 lead after three.
Jose Osuna, Jin-De Jhang, and Jonathan Schwind each notched two hits and an RBI to lead Bradenton offensively.
The Palm Beach bats mustered just six hits - three of which went for doubles - against Bradenton pitching on the night. Tilson was the only Cardinal with a multi-hit game, recording two singles to extend his hitting streak to 10 games - the second-longest streak in the Florida State League this year.
Valera, who owns the longest streak in the league, waited until his last at-bat to leg out an infield single and extend his mark to 12 games. He has hit safely in every game for Palm Beach this season.
The Marauders tallied their fifth run of the night in the seventh inning on an Osuna RBI single. Aidan Lucas replaced Gonzales two batters later and finished the game strong for the Cardinals.
Lucas allowed just one hit in the final 2.1 innings and struck out one batter.
Bradenton hurlers Pat Ludwig, Josh Smith, and Jhondaniel Medina combined for the shutout and struck out nine in the game.
Ludwig (1-0) scattered three hits over five innings, walked one and fanned four to earn the win for Bradenton.
The Cardinals and Marauders return to Roger Dean Stadium on Wednesday night for the final game of the series. RH Michael Mayers (1-1, 4.50) will start for Palm Beach and RH John Kuchno (1-1, 6.23) will be on the mound for Bradenton. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Fans can listen to the game live on www.palmbeachcardinals.com and receive live updates by following @GoPBCardinals on Twitter.
