Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

SHREVEPORT, La. - In 2010, the Shreveport-Bossier Captains rose atop a 10-team American Association with a 96-game regular season en route their first championship in franchise history. To defend the crown, it will take 100 games to get to the playoffs, and 14 teams are looking for the four playoff berths.

While the Captains only play one of the four new teams in the league (the Gary SouthShore RailCats), their rivalry with the Pensacola Pelicans has been transferred to Amarillo, Texas, as the Amarillo Sox assumed the Pelicans' place in the league.

With Amarillo and Gary added to the mix, the Captains also face familiar foes Fort Worth, Grand Prairie and El Paso, along with former North Division rivals Lincoln, Sioux City and Wichita, who are now in the new Central Division, and St. Paul, who remains in the North Division.

For the first time as the Captains, the club opens the season at home, this time against the Lincoln Saltdogs on Wednesday, May 11, at 10:05 a.m. as part of the Captains' D.A.R.E. program. The "Opening Night" celebration will take place the following evening, with two more day games for area schoolchildren on May 16 and 17 against Sioux City.

A bulk of the 50-game road schedule comes in two long stretches for the Captains - a 10-game, three-city trip through the Texas trio of Amarillo, El Paso and Grand Prairie from May 20 to May 29, and a stretch of 18 of 20 on the road from June 24 to July 13, with trips to Amarillo and Grand Prairie followed by a brief two-game homestand against the Sox on July 1 and 2, before 11 games at Amarillo, Fort Worth and Wichita.

Aside from their home-and-home (two at Fair Grounds Field and three in Amarillo) with the Sox in early July, the Captains also have two six-game series on the slate, at home against El Paso from May 30-June 4, and at Gary from August 12-17.

Overall, the Captains have 68 games against the South Division, with exactly half at home, along with 13 games at home against the Central and a three-game set at Fair Grounds Field against North Division St. Paul, coupled with 16 games at Central Division foes. The Captains do not play at any North Division squads in the regular season.

Shreveport-Bossier plays Fort Worth 21 times in 2011, 17 against both Amarillo and Grand Prairie, 13 against El Paso, 10 against Wichita, nine against Gary, seven against Lincoln, and three each against Sioux City and St. Paul.

The full printable schedule is available at http://www.sbcaptains.com/schedule/default/-print/ and season tickets are on sale now, for the same $200 as they were for the 48-game home slate last year.

The 2010 American Association Champion Shreveport-Bossier Captains thank all of the people who made the 2010 regular season such a success.
