
Captains announce radio broadcast team

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains will have a new addition to the broadcast booth this year. Former Cleveland Indian Kevin Rhomberg will provide color commentary for all 70 home games that are aired on the Captains radio network. Rhomberg joins Craig Deas who will take over as the "Voice of the Captains" after spending the first four seasons as the Captains secondary announcer.
Deas has been broadcasting local sports since 1987. A Glasgow, Scotland native, he has called high school sports on Viacom Cable, Continental Cable, Media One, Comcast and Adelphia. He currently does high school football and basketball on GTV in Geauga County as well as WELW in Willoughby. His career began in 1983, when he worked as an associate producer of the Pete Franklin Sportsline Show on WWWE. While at WWWE, Deas also helped produce Indians, Browns and Cavaliers broadcasts. He has also had on air stints at WDJQ in Alliance as well as WHK, WERE, and WRMR in Cleveland. Deas lives in Perry with his wife Gina, and their three children, Mike, Carolyn and Brittany.
Rhomberg is originally from Dubuque, Iowa. He attended the College of St. Francis and was drafted in the 14th round by the Cleveland Indians in 1977. He made his Major League debut September 1, 1982. He retired in 1985 with a career batting average of .383. Kevin then became a scout for the Indians until 1990, when he took over as head coach for the Cleveland State baseball team. He would spend the next ten years as a college baseball coach at Cleveland State and Lakeland Community College. Kevin is currently doing minor league baseball consulting, including buying and selling minor league teams. He most recently opened Super Joe's Baseball / Softball Academy in Painesville Twp., Ohio. Kevin is Married to Denice, and they have four (4) children and two (2) grand children.
The Lake County Captains are the Class A Affiliate of the Cleveland Indians and play their home games at Classic Park in Eastlake at the corners of State Route 91 and Vine Street. The Captains will play their home opener on Friday, April 13th at 7:05 p.m. against the Lexington Legends.
