Capitols lead after first but come up short
Lincoln, NE - - The Lincoln Capitols opened the 2005 season with a stellar first quarter but would come up short in a 48-30 loss.
The Capitols would score in the first 45 seconds of the game with a run by Mike Erdkamp. The touchdown was set up by a long pass from Aaron Thumann to Adrian Perez. The rookie quarterback hooked up again with Perez for a 24 yard touchdown pass in the same quarter. The Capitols ended the 1st quarter with a 42-yard field goal by rookie kicker Sandro DeAngelis for a 17-3 lead.
The Second quarter would see Thumann connect once again with Perez for a 30-yard touchdown. The Capitols would end the half with a Sandro DeAngelis 17 yard field goal to take a 27-24 half time lead into the locker room.
The Capitols managed only a Sandro DeAngelis 30 yard field goal to score in the second half of play. In the meantime, the Roughnecks would take advantage of the Caps first game miscues to pull out their second straight victory to start the season.
The Lincoln Capitols will be action again when they host the New Jersey Xtreme April 9th.
The Capitols will be hosting a youth football camp before the game from 4-5:15.
