Former NIFL Wide Receiver Defeats Cancer

Lincoln, NE -- Turnover for former Lincoln Capitals Wide Receiver, Mike Dixon, as he is given a second chance by defeating his most relentless rival, testicular cancer. He now challenges every man and every football player at all levels of the game to practice prevention and to raise awareness for this disease.
Dixon, who is presently Lincoln Northeast High School's JV and Varsity Assistant Football Coach, has been in remission for over three months. He attributes his success in winning the battle against cancer to the dedicated doctors who treated him, his faith in God and the stamina and determination he gained from the game of football. "We all have storms," Dixon emphasized, "it's not what we do in that storm, but how we come out of it."
Dixon discovered he had stage 3 testicular cancer after finishing the 2005 NIFL season with the Capitals and only months after getting married. He states that he "didn't feel sick", but had a throbbing in the kidneys. The former wide receiver acknowledged that a common mistake made by men is that they are often too proud to admit when they are in pain. This is exactly why Dixon sees this turnover as a gift, an opportunity to be a testimonial to all men and encourage them to get a yearly check-up. "Now it is up to them to run with that knowledge," Dixon encourages. "If I capture one person's attention, I have given this disease a fighting chance."
