
Capitals Sign Andre Burakovsky

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals have signed forward Andre Burakovsky to a three-year, entry-level contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Burakovsky, 18, was drafted by Washington in the first-round (23rd overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft. The Klagenfurt, Austria, native registered 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 43 games with Malm̮̦ of the Allsvenskan Swedish league in 2012-13. During the 2013 Under-18 World Junior Championships, Burakovsky posted five points (four goals, one assist) in five games with Sweden. He also represented Sweden in the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and recorded six points (three goals, three assists) in five games.
The 6'1", 176-pound forward participated in the U-17 World Hockey Challenge and the U-18 World Junior Championship tournaments in 2012. Burakovsky recorded eight points (four goals, four assists) in six games at the Under-17 World Hockey Challenge, and helped lead Sweden to a silver medal at the U-18 World Junior Challenge where he registered three assists in six games.
Burakovsky, son of former NHL player Robert Burakovsky, will play for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League during the upcoming 2013-14 season.
