Roanoke Express News Release

Roanoke (AP) - Michael Gluski passed for over 232 yards, and Norman Mason pulled in two early touchdown passes, as the Cape Fear Wildcats sprinted to a 53-32 victory over the host Roanoke Steam.

Roanoke, playing without former starting QB Chris Sanders, who was recently signed by the NFL, stumbled out of the gate and never completely recovered. Starting QB Mike Volarvich threw two early interceptions and was pulled due to injury. His replacement, Sean Peterson, led the team to a small offensive resurgance, bringing them back to within 13 points midway through the third quarter.

But Cape Fear's stifling defense lived up to it's reputation, smothering the Roanoke attack in the red zone. The Wildcats offense was able to capitalize on several Roanoke miscues, including a 49 yard touchdown pass from Gluski to Seth Gutz on a third and 10.

Cape Fear with the win advances to 5-2 on the campaign. The Steam drop to 4-4 on the year, and 2-3 in the Atlantic Division. Roanoke travels next week to Fayettevile to take on these same Wildcats.
