BOSTON, MA - Thursday, June 4, 2009 - The Boston Cannons (1-2) of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) will look for their second consecutive win when they travel to New York for a rematch against the Long Island Lizards (2-1) at Hofstra University's Shuart Stadium on Friday, June 5 at 7:00 PM (ET).

CANNONS VS. LONG ISLAND IN 2009: The Cannons came up short in their 2009 season-opening game against the Long Island Lizards, by a score of 9-8, at Harvard Stadium on May 16. Attackman Seth Goldberg netted the game-winning goal for the Lizards, earning Bud Light MVP honors in a game that ended as tied for the second-lowest scoring game in MLL's nine year history. Midfielder Brett Garber led the Cannons with three goals, including one two-point goal and two power-play tallies.

CANNONS' LAST GAME (MAY 30 AT CHICAGO): The Cannons earned their first win of the 2009 season, 16-14, against the Chicago Machine at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois on May 30. The game marked the first-ever lacrosse game to be played at Soldier Field. Midfielder Paul Rabil earned Bud Light MVP honors in the game for his six point performance, including three goals, one two-point goal and an assist. The Cannons controlled most of the game, and had compiled a commanding 14-6 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Machine rallied back in the fourth frame, but their efforts came up just two goals short. With the win, the Cannons improved their record to 1-2 this season.

LONG ISLANDS' LAST GAME (MAY 29 AT TORONTO): In what was otherwise a back-and-forth game through the first three quarters, the Long Island Lizards dominated in the fourth, taking advantage of three Toronto Nationals penalties to score three unanswered goals and defeat the Nationals on their home turf of BMO Field by a final score of 13-9. The Nationals were previously unbeaten this season, while the Lizards improved their record to 2-1. A mere 48 hours after being drafted by the Lizards in the first-round of the 2009 MLL Collegiate Draft, attackman Zach Greer made his presence known, scoring four goals, adding one assist, and being named Bud Light MVP for his efforts in his first career MLL game.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The last three games between the Cannons and Long Island have all been decided by just one goal...The Cannons are 17-10-1 all time in games played on the road...Heading into this weekend, the Cannons are ranked as the second-best defense in the league, allowing just 37 goals against, however Long Island, with only 31 goals against, are the best defensive team in the league...Attackman Brandon Corp, selected fourth-overall by the Cannons in the 2009 MLL Collegiate Draft, is expected to play in Friday night's game...Goalie Mike Levin made his first start as a Cannon on May 30 against the Chicago Machine, stopping 15 of the 28 shots he faced to earn his first Cannons win...Midfielder Paul Rabil was named MLL's Offensive Player of the Week for his six-point performance against the Chicago Machine on May 30...Midfielder Matt Poskay, the Cannons MVP in 2008, will miss at least the first four games of the season after being added to the Physically Unable to Perform List due to a non-lacrosse related injury.
