Cannons Travel to Chicago for First Road Game of 2009

BOSTON, MA - Friday, May 29, 2009 - The Boston Cannons (0-2) of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) will look for their first win of 2009 after two hard-fought one-goal losses, when they take on the Chicago Machine (1-1) at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday, May 30 at 4:00 PM (ET).

CANNONS VS. CHICAGO ALL-TIME: The Cannons have matched up against Chicago just once in the league's history, losing a heartbreaker in Chicago on July 13, 2007 by a score of 19-18. Cannons goalie Kip Turner made his MLL debut in the game, after being drafted second-overall by the Cannons in the 2007 MLL Collegiate Draft. Attackman Kevin Leveille scored the game-winning goal for the Machine late in the fourth quarter to give the team their second win in the team's history.

CANNONS' LAST GAME (MAY 22 VS. DENVER): The Cannons were defeated by the Denver Outlaws, 15-14, in a hard-fought match-up at Harvard Stadium on May 22. Outlaws attackman Brendan Mundorf collected five goals and one assist to earn Bud Light MVP honors in the contest. Attackman Ryan Boyle led the Cannons with three goals and one assist in his debut game with the team. Each of the Cannons two games so far this season have been decided by one goal.

CHICAGO'S LAST GAME (MAY 22 AT TORONTO): The Chicago Machine were defeated by the Toronto Nationals, in Toronto's inaugural home opener at BMO Field on May 22, by a final score of 15-11. The game's Bud Light MVP, Merrick Thomson, tallied three goals and one assist in the win, while Kevin Leveille led the Machine with six goals and one assist.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The Cannons acquired midfielder Greg Downing in a draft day trade with Denver after Downing posted a career-best four goals against the Cannons on May 22 at Harvard Stadium as a member of the Outlaws...The Cannons are a perfect 4-0 in their history in games played during the afternoon...This season is the first that the Cannons have started 0-2, however the Barrage rebounded from an 0-2 start in 2004 to win the MLL Championship...The Cannons are 16-10-1 all-time in games played on the road...Defenseman Jack Reid, who was injured during a training camp scrimmage, was activated from the Injured Reserve list on Friday...Midfielder Matt Poskay, the Cannons MVP in 2008, will miss at least the first four games of the season after being added to the Physically Unable to Perform List due to a non-lacrosse related injury.
