
Cannons Open Ninth Season on Saturday

BOSTON, MA - Friday, May 15, 2009 - The Boston Cannons (0-0) of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), will open the 2009 season, their ninth as an organization, when they take on the Long Island Lizards (0-0) at Harvard Stadium on Saturday, May 16 at 7:00 PM.
CANNONS IN 2008: The Cannons finished the 2008 season with a 7-5 record, narrowly missing the postseason for just the second time in the team's eight-year history. The Cannons posted a winning record of 4-3 at their home venue, Harvard Stadium, and finished with a record of 3-2 on the road.
CANNONS VS. LONG ISLAND IN 2008: The Cannons faced-off against the Long Island Lizards twice during the 2008 season and earned a record of 1-1. The Lizards got the better of the Cannons in the first match-up, winning by a score of 20-19 in a very close overtime thriller in Long Island. Attackman Sean Morris collected a season-high eight points (2-6=8) in the loss, during his debut in a Cannons uniform, while attackman Spencer Ford led the way for the Lizards with four points (2-2=4). The two teams faced each other again later in the season, with the Cannons earning a 13-12 victory in the rematch when midfielder Tom Zummo sent a long-range pass down the field to attackman John Christmas for the Cannons' game-winning goal within the final seconds of the contest.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Each of the Cannons' two games against Long Island during the 2008 season were decided by just one goal...The Cannons are 5-3 all-time in their season-opening games, with a record of 3-1 in season-openers at home...Longtime Waltham High School Boy's Lacrosse Coach Steve Duffy has joined the Cannons as an assistant coach...Defenseman Chris Passavia and attackman Matt Alrich were named as Cannons' co-captains for the 2009 season...Midfielder Matt Poskay, the Cannons MVP in 2008, will miss at least the first four games of the season after being added to the Physically Unable to Perform List due to a non-lacrosse related injury.
