Boston Cannons News Release

The 6-4 Boston Cannons host the 1-9 Bridgeport Barrage this Thursday August 7 at 7:30PM at Cawley Stadium, Lowell, MA. A win by the Cannons clinches the team's third consecutive playoff berth. Boston's magic number is one with Rochester, thus a Rattlers loss or a Cannons win puts Boston in the playoffs. The Cannons look to capitalize on the momentum created by their most well played game of the season. Boston exploded for 22 points in a 22-15 thrashing of the defending MLL Champion Baltimore Bayhawks on Saturday August 2 (see story below). The win gave the Cannons its second straight over Baltimore and also clinched the first season series win for Boston over the Bayhawks (2-1).

Thursday is the Cannons second and final meeting with the Barrage. Boston won the first meeting at Bridgeport on June 6, 23-17. The Cannons 23 points tied an MLL record for points in a game (which has since been broken by Rochester). The Cannons own the all-time series with Bridgeport, 7-2. Boston has had more success against the Barrage than any of its other MLL opponents.

The Cannons final home game features two special events. Heinz, the official condiment of the Boston Cannons, will be giving away a trip to the MLL Championship Weekend. All season at the Heinz Booth in the Fan Zone at Cawley Stadium, fans have had the chance to sign up for the contest. Meanwhile, the presentation of the World Cup Sports 2003 Boston Cannons Team Awards takes place at halftime. Awards include the 11th Man, Rookie of the Year, Offensive and Defensive player of the year and Team MVP (see story below).

You can catch all the live play-by-play of the game on the Boston Cannons Web Radio Network presented by New Balance with Jason Chandler. The pregame show begins at 7:15PM. Faceoff on Thursday is at 7:30PM.

Garrity Named MLL Co-Rookie Of The Week

Cannons goaltender Chris Garrity was named the MLL Co-Rookie of the Week along with Rochester's Adam Doneger. Garrity made 21 saves in the Cannons 22-15 win over Baltimore on Saturday August 2 at Cawley Stadium.
