CANNONS VS. CHICAGO IN 2009: The Cannons have faced the Chicago Machine twice this season, earning a victory in both match-ups. In the first meeting, the Cannons earned their first win of the 2009 season, 16-14, against the Machine at Soldier Field in Chicago on May 30. Midfielder Paul Rabil earned Bud Light MVP honors in the game for his six-point performance, including three goals, one two-point goal and an assist. The Cannons controlled most of the game, and had compiled a commanding 14-6 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Machine rallied back in the fourth frame, but their efforts came up just two goals short. In the second game, the Cannons crushed the Machine by a score of 22-11 at Harvard Stadium on June 13. In his first game back after missing the opening four contests of the season, 2008 Cannons MVP midfielder Matt Poskay was awarded the Bud Light MVP for his four goal performance. Cannons goalie Mike Levin made 18 saves on the 29 shots he faced.
CANNONS' LAST GAME (JULY 9 AT LONG ISLAND): The Cannons suffered their third one-goal loss of the season to the rival Long Island Lizards, by a score of 11-10, in front 5,221 fans at Hofstra University's Shuart Stadium on July 9. Lizards goalie Brian Dougherty earned the Bud Light MVP for his 14 saves in the win, including a final-second point-blank shot that would have tied the game.
CHICAGO'S LAST GAME (JULY 4 VS. TORONTO): The Chicago Machine ended their six-game losing streak on our Independence Day with a 24-19 win against the Toronto Nationals. Attackman Kevin Leveille earned the Bud Light MVP award thanks to his season high eight point performance (7G, 1A). His brother, attackman Mike Leveille also registered eight points (3G, 5A) as the Machine unloaded notched highest single- game goal total this season.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR: With his four-point performance against the Long Island Lizards on July 9, midfielder Paul Rabil took over control of the Cannons scoring lead with 36 points (22G, 4 2ptG, 10A)...In the four games that midfielder Matt Poskay, the 2008 Cannons MVP, has been in the lineup this season, the Cannons have a perfect 4-0 record...Assuming he makes an appearance in tomorrow night's game, goalie Mike Levin will play in his 50th game in Major League Lacrosse, making him just the fifth goalie in MLL history to reach that milestone...With their next win, the Cannons will notch win number 60 for the team...Each of the Cannons' four losses this season have been decided by one goal, and three of them were to the Long Island Lizards.
