Boston Cannons News Release
BOSTON, MA - In their first meeting since the Cannons won the team's first Major League Lacrosse Championship last August, the Boston Cannons (3-0) forged another victory over the Hamilton Nationals (0-2), 18-9, in front of a record crowd of 11,277 fans at Harvard Stadium. With three goals and two assists, Ryan Boyle was named Bud Light Player of the Game.
Boyle began the scoring four minutes into the game on an assist from Paul Rabil. The teams traded goals, including face-off man Chris Eck's first of the season, to tie it at two apiece. But the Cannons ended the quarter on a three goal run from Boyle, Matt Poksay and Kevin Buchanan to pull ahead, 5-2.
Entering the second quarter down three goals, Hamilton scored twice on goals from Kevin Crowley and Jeremy Thompson to get within one. Boyle regained the momentum for the Cannons, completing his hat trick. Cannons Mike Stone and Buchanan each scored before Crowley added another to end the half with the Cannons up 8-3.
While Rabil got the Cannons on the board first coming out of the locker room, dishing to Stone before scoring himself, the Nationals matched each Cannons goal to cut the lead to 11-8 going into the final 15 minutes of play. But the Cannons dominated the fourth quarter with seven goals from as many players. Stone scored 45 seconds in, followed by Bill McGlone, Eck, Poskay, Kyle Sweeney, Buchanan and Rabil to complete the third consecutive victory at home.
With his two assists, Boyle is now two away from tying the MLL all-time record of 211, held by former Cannon Conor Gill. Rabil also finished with five points, on two goals and three assists, and Buchanan tallied a hat trick in his first game back with the Cannons.
The Cannons return to Harvard Stadium Saturday, June 9th to take on the Long Island Lizards after games on the road in Denver and Rochester. More information and tickets are available at BostonCannons.com.
