Lafayette, La. - The Acadiana Cane Cutters are victorious in their first matchup against the Victoria Generals this season. The Cane Cutters won 4-1 at Riverside Stadium getting their record to 13-11. Acadiana had another great defensive effort tonight with great pitching. The Cane Cutters will face the Victoria Generals again tomorrow night at 7pm in Victoria, Texas.

Acadiana's Marcus Mott (Temple College) pitched 4 innings with 4 strikeouts and only allowing 3 hits. Mott finished the night with an ERA of 1.86. Nick Hill (Nicholls State) pitched 3.1 innings and did not allow a single run scored. Jay Ward (UTSA) closed out the game pitching 1 inning, striking out 2 batters, and ending the game with an ERA of 1.33. The Acadiana Cane Cutters will hope to continue their great pitching efforts tomorrow night when they face the Generals again.

The Cane Cutters got the job done tonight in the batter's box putting up 4 runs against the Generals. Conor Higgs (UL Lafayette) earned 2 runs and 1 RBI on the night with one of those runs coming from a homerun. Ethan Lege (Delgado) was also able to hit a homerun in tonight's game accumulating a total of 1 run, 1 RBI, and 1 stolen base for the Cane Cutters. Jack Schell (Lamar University) continues to show impressive batting skills recording a batting average of .500 with 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases in tonight's game against Victoria.

The Cane Cutters will try to carry this momentum into tomorrow night's game 2 in Victoria, Texas. Acadiana is red hot and looking to hold on to 2nd place in the TCL in a tight race. The combination of good pitching and hitting is helping to keep the Cane Cutters rolling for an upcoming stint of road series.

The Acadiana Cane Cutters will play again at home at Fabacher Field on July 20th against the Victoria Generals. All home games will begin at 7:00 pm and will be broadcast live on TCL TV.
