Cane Cutters Take Down Brazos Valley in Series Finale

July 17, 2013 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release

Acadiana singing and playing sensation MacKenzie Bourg greeted fans Fabacher Field Wednesday night as the Cane Cutters took on the Texas Collegiate League leading Brazos Valley Bombers in the series finale of this marquee two-game set.

Much like last night's game the Cane Cutters found themselves in a pitching duel with the visiting Bombers. Justin Sinibaldi got the nod tonight and turned in yet another solid performance. The Nicholls State product picked up right where he left off last Thursday night pitching 6 scoreless and retiring five Bombers on strikes while allowing only two hits. Both pitchers had their best stuff tonight allowing only 4 hits combined and no runs across through five. The Bombers threatened in the fifth inning loading the bags, but Sinibaldi was able end the scare by punching out the Bomber hitter.

The Cane Cutters struck first in the 6th inning on a passed ball that allowed outfielder Jordie Hein to cross. Then in the 7th inning the bats finally began to wake for the Cane Cutters. Catcher Mitchell Nau started it off with an infield single that ignited the Cutters and led to a double by Connor Barron and RBI singles by Jordie Hein and LSU product Chris Sciambra.

The big inning gave the Cane Cutters a 5-2 lead and that was all that reliever Ryan Deemes needed. He pitched a flawless 8th striking out the side and closed the door in the 9th retiring the Bombers in 3-up-3-down fashion to get the save and get the Cane Cutters the win. The save gives Deemes 6 on the season, which breaks the previous Cane Cutter record of 5. The victory earned Acadiana a split series with the nationally ranked Bombers.

The second half leading Cane Cutters will take their talents to East Texas to take on the Pump Jacks for the first time since June 21. After a pair in Kilgore, the Canes will return to Acadiana Saturday night for Roaring 20's Night at Fabacher Field. So fire up the jalopy, dust off the bowler hat, and slip in the flapper dresses as the Cane Cutters take you back to baseball at the turn of the twentieth century. Don't miss a fun evening of early 1900's style press releases, photos, programs, public address announcements and more!
