Candace Parker named to 2009-12 USA Basketball Women's National Team

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Sparks and USA Basketball announced today forward Candace Parker is one of the first of eight players named to the 2009-12 USA Basketball Women's National Team. Parker will train with the USA Women's National Team, which will select its final 2012 Olympic roster, should the USA qualify, from the overall pool of players attending training sessions throughout the next few years.

In her Olympic debut in 2008, Parker averaged 9.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists and shot 61 percent from the field in eight games.

In her WNBA career, Parker is averaging 16.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.0 blocks per game. She was the first player ever to be named Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player of the WNBA in the same season in 2008.
