
Canadian Forces touch down at Grey Cup

Toronto, ON (September 20, 2006) - The Canadian Football League (CFL) is pleased to announce today that the Canadian Forces (CF) is participating in this year's Grey Cup in Winnipeg.
"The Grey Cup is a great Canadian tradition that the Canadian Forces is proud to support," said General Rick Hillier, Chief of the Defence Staff. "In fact, it is extremely important that we make this type of connection with Canadians so they know and understand what we do, how we do it and why we do it."
The CF will have a distinct presence leading up to and including the 94th annual Grey Cup game on November 19th at Canada Inns Stadium.
"The Canadian Forces, similar to the Grey Cup, is an iconic symbol of our great country," CFL Commissioner Tom Wright said. "In football, defence is the key to success, and defence is certainly the hallmark of our collective army, navy and air forces."
The CF schedule of events includes:
* Nov. 14 - A CF vehicle convoy will kick off Grey Cup week festivities by escorting the competing teams from the Winnipeg airport to their hotels. Two CH-146 Griffon Helicopters will transport the Commissioner with the Grey Cup to the Forks (weather permitting).
* Nov. 15-17 - The CF will escort the CFL teams' cheerleaders to functions around Winnipeg.
* Nov. 16-18 - A CF Jazz Band will perform for fans arriving at the Winnipeg Airport.
* Nov. 18 - The CF will participate in both the annual Grey Cup parade and the Forks Parka Day-the two highlights of the 2006 Grey Cup week's festival of activities. The CF's elite SkyHawks parachute team will provide a demonstration at the Forks.
* Nov. 19 - Game Day - Across from Canad Inns Stadium, the CF will host a large static display featuring equipment and vehicles from the Army, Navy and Air Force. The famous CF Snowbirds will perform a fly-past during the opening ceremony. C3-Howitzer artillery guns will salute Grey Cup touchdowns. CF members will also escort the RCMP carrying the Grey Cup trophy to the victory podium.
