Can-Am League Recaps
June 26, 2013 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Trois-Rivieres 3, Quebec 1
The Aigles benefitted from a strong start by Tyler Wilson to beat Quebec, 3-1. Wilson struck out eight Capitales hitters over six innings, to earn the win. The right-hander surrendered one run on just three hits.
Trois-Rivieres CF Steve Brown provided the offense. The Aigles trailed by one entering the bottom of the fourth. But, a one out error put Jon Smith on base and Brown made Quebec pay with a two-run homer to give the Aigles the lead. Trois-Rivieres added a run in the seventh when Jeremy Nowak came home on a wild pitch, which gave Nick Sarianides enough cushion to comfortably nail down the save in the ninth.
New Jersey 8, Rockland 6
New Jersey's Gaetano Giunta, Jose Cuevas and Jeremy Barnes combined for a five-run sixth inning, giving the Jackals a comeback win against Rockland, 8-6. The Jackals were down by two, but loaded the bases with one out. That is when Giunta delivered a two-run double to knot the score. Two batters later, Cuevas tripled home a pair to give the Jackals the lead and Barnes followed up with an insurance run-scoring ground rule double.
The explosive sixth proved to be enough for New Jersey. The Boulders plated one run in the eighth, but that was all. Jackals closer Keith Cantwell worked a one-two-three ninth inning and earned his 10th save of the season. That save moved Cantwell into sole possession of first place for saves in the Can-Am League in 2013.
