Quebec 5, Pittsfield 4

Pete LaForest clubbed his second home run of the series, a two-run shot in the third, and Ivan Naccarata had three hits from the leadoff spot as Quebec topped Pittsfield 5-4 to tie the Can-Am League Championship Series at one game apiece. A solo shot from Naccarata began the Capitales four-run third, and the team loaded the bases with two outs after LaForest's homer, setting up Alex Nunez's RBI single. LaForest drove in his third run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the fourth to improve Quebec's lead to 5-0. Pittsfield battled back, however, manufacturing a fourth-inning run before getting to Quebec starting pitcher Dan Sausville for three in the fifth on back-to-back bases loaded singles from Wes Fink and Danny Bomback. That brought the game to 5-4, but the Pittsfield bats came up short against Matthew Rusch, who recorded the final five outs to pick up the save. The Colonials threatened with runners on the corners and one out in the eighth before Rusch induced a key inning-ending double play. Pittsfield's bullpen surrendered just a run in six innings of relief, but starting pitcher Miguel Flores lasted just 2.2 innings in the loss. The two teams travel to Quebec for Game 3 of the best-of-five series Thursday night at 7:05 PM EST. Pittsfield's Kyle Zaleski will face off against Quebec's Karl Gelinas.
