Sussex County 2, Trois-Rivieres 1 (Game 1 - 7 Innings)
Starting pitcher Cory Jones gave up an earned run over 6 2/3 innings of work as Sussex County downed Trois-Rivieres, 2-1, in game one of a doubleheader.
Jones had a solid outing for the Miners as he gave up three walks and eight hits while striking out four in a 119-pitch performance. The righty earned the win and is now 9-3 on the season. The nine victories by Jones ties him for second most in the league.
Offensively for Sussex County, Audy Ciriaco went 1-for-3 with a solo home run while Mikey Reynolds had a hit in three at-bats and drove in a run. The Miners scored single runs in the second and third innings.
For the Aigles in the losing effort, David Glaude went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.
Sussex County 6, Trois-Rivieres 1 (Game 2 - 8 Innings)
Sussex County scored five runs in the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Trois-Rivieres by the score of 6-1. With the victory, the Miners completed the doubleheader sweep.
The Miners had eight hits in the contest and was led by Martin Figueroa who went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBIs. Luis Alen had a pair of hits, including a home run, and an RBI while Audy Ciriaco added a triple and a run scored in a 1-for-4 game.
ElHajj Muhammad tossed two innings of relief and collected his second win of the year. Muhammad allowed an earned run on three hits and struck out one in the 10 batters he faced.
Taylor Brennan hit his league leading 28th home run of the season in the loss for the Aigles.
Quebec 9, New Jersey 1 (Game 1 - 5 Innings)
Quebec scored all nine of their runs in the second inning and rolled to a 9-1 victory over New Jersey in game one of a doubleheader. This contest was shortened to five innings due to rain.
The Capitales pounded out 14 hits in the contest with four batters having multi-hit games. Kalian Sams went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs while Yordan Manduley had a perfect 4-for-4 night with a run scored and an RBI. Adam Ehrlich and Maxx Tissenbaum each chipped in two hits as well for Quebec.
Capitales starting pitcher Jay Johnson tossed all five innings and notched his sixth win of the season. Johnson gave up an earned run on two hits and struck out four batters.
For New Jersey, Jordan Hinshaw went 1-for-2 and scored the team's only run.
Quebec at New Jersey (Game 2 - Postponed/Rain)
Game two of the doubleheader between Quebec and New Jersey was postponed due to rain. The contest will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday, August 19 beginning at 2:05 PM. Both games will be seven innings.
Rockland 5, Ottawa 0
Starting pitcher David Palladino and two relievers combined on a five-hit shutout as Rockland defeated Ottawa, 5-0.
Palladino went the first seven innings of the contest and allowed a walk and the five hits while striking out six in 86 pitches. The two relievers, Trey Haley and Kyle Hansen, each tossed an inning of relief and combined to fan two hitters. Palladino picked-up the victory and his now 4-2 on the year.
Mike Montville led the offense for the Boulders tonight going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Rylan Sandoval had a pair of hits in four at-bats and two RBIs while Cody Regis drew two walks and scored a run in a 1-for-2 night. Rockland scored all five of their runs in the first four innings.
