Salina 8, Ottawa 6
The Salina Stockade started off their 2018 series with the Can-Am League on a winning note as they downed the Ottawa Champions by an 8-6 score. Salina jumped out to a 7-1 lead after 3 ½ innings and would never look back en route to notching the victory. The Stockade collected 11 hits and was led by DH Carson Lee who went 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI. Salina SS Robert Garza added three hits in four at-bats and drove in a pair of runs while 1B/3B Chris Kwitzer collected a double and scored three runs in a 1-for-5 night.
Stockade starting pitcher Edilson Alvarez tossed seven innings and picked-up the victory while Dillon Sunnafrank threw a scoreless ninth inning and earned his first save.
For Ottawa in the losing effort, leadoff hitter Coco Johnson went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI.
Rockland 10, New Jersey 2
The Rockland Boulders won their fifth consecutive game as they defeated the New Jersey Jackals by the score of 10-2. Rockland jumped ahead 3-0 after 1 ½ innings and then added five more runs over the fourth and fifth innings to open up the contest and roll to an easy victory. Boulders pounded out 13 hits with every batter picking-up at least one. Rockland C Kevin Krause went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored while 2B Jared McDonald added a pair of hits in four at-bats and drove in three runs. Designated hitter Marcus Nidiffer and 1B Mikael Mogues each chipped in home runs for the Boulders.
Rockland starting pitcher Justin Topa threw seven solid innings in earning his first win of the year. Topa allowed two runs, one earned, on eight hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
For New Jersey, 1B Dean Green had two doubles and scored a run in a 3-for-4 night.
Sussex County 10, Dominican Republic 4
Sussex County scored five runs over the seventh and eighth innings to break open a tight contest and defeat the Dominican Republic national team by a 10-4 final. The Miners trailed 2-1 after an inning of play but scored a run in the fourth and three more in the fifth to take the lead at 5-2. The Dominican Republic added a pair of runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to one, however, Sussex County would plate the five runs in the next two frames to win going away.
The 3-4-5 hitters of the Miners did the damage offensively. First baseman Audy Ciriaco, 2B/3B Mikey Reynolds and 3B Martin Figueroa went a combined 10-for-12 at the plate with four doubles, six runs scored and six RBI.
Sussex County starter Tyler Alexander allowed two earned runs over seven innings of work to notch his third victory of the season. Alexander gave up a walk and eight hits to go with nine strikeouts.
Trois-Rivieres 5, Quebec 4 (Top 9 - In Progress)
