Can-Am League Game Recaps

Published on May 24, 2015 under Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Ottawa 9, Sussex County 8

Despite a 6-0 Miners lead, the Champions did not back down and rallied to take the win in Sunday's series finale. Every single Ottawa starter recorded a hit in the win, and four players- 2B Roberto Ramirez, LF Mike Schwartz, C Bryce Massanari and RF Chris Winder- had multiple hits.

The Champions countered a five-run Sussex inning with a five-run inning of their own in the 4th. Winder drove in the frame's first run on an RBI single, while Schwartz issued the biggest blow of the inning on a bases-clearing double. Sussex regained the lead in the sixth, only to have Ottawa tie the game at 8-8 in the 7th inning when DH Matt Tenaglia hit a two-run home run. Schwartz scored the winning run in the eighth on an error to cap the comeback.

LHP Josh Blanco earned the win for Ottawa, striking out a batter and not allowing a hit over two innings in his season debut. RHP Nick Purdy worked a scoreless ninth for the save.

Trois-Rivieres 12, Rockland 5

Behind a six-run fourth inning, the Trois-Rivieres Aigles won Sunday's ballgame against the Boulders. SS Pedro Lopez had a three-hit game for the Aigles, while DH Steve Brown and RF Frederic Hanvi had two hits each. Lopez hit a double for the first run driven in in the fourth inning, the lone extra base hit of the game for Trois-Rivieres.

RHP Kevin Thomas worked six scoreless innings for the win, while RHP Edilson Alvarez threw the last three innings for the save.

Four Boulders hitters had multi-hit games- CF Jared McDonald, DH Steve Nyisztor, LF Stephen Cardullo and 1B Charlie Law.

Gary SouthShore 6, Quebec 5

Three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning allowed the RailCats to rally and split the season-opening interleague series. RF Drew Martinez singled home CF Jon Jones, and 2B Zac Mitchell scored on an error to tie the game. The RailCats took the lead when C Michael Vaughn drove in Martinez with a single.

Mitchell's three-hit day paced the RailCats at the plate, while Jones, Martinez and 1B Roger Bernal had two hits apiece.

For Quebec, 3B Josue Peley hit his first home run of the year, a three-run shot in the third inning.

RHP Shawn O'Neill worked a scoreless inning to earn the win, while RHP Jessie Snodgrass saved the ballgame.
