Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Top-scorer Taylor Cammarata recorded the first and last goal Friday, helping the Waterloo Black Hawks to a 4-2 home win against the Chicago Steel at Young Arena.
Cammarata nudged Waterloo ahead in the first period at 11:41; his redirection of a Mitch Witek shot eluded Mathias Dahlstrom. The Steel answered just less than three minutes later. Phillip Marinaccio split defenders on a rush to the Black Hawks' net, setting up a rebound goal for Theo DiPauli.
Two long shots put the Hawks back in front during the second period. At 9:12, Joe Rehkamp brought the puck up left wing and fired a wrist shot into the net from above the circle. Then at 13:50, Trevor Owens blasted in a chance from just inside the blue line, beating Dahlstrom to the glove side just under the crossbar. Chicago got one back with 2:01 remaining before intermission, with Daniel Kucerovy flipping in a rolling puck low to the long side.
However, an unassisted Cammarata goal reestablished the two-tally margin at 3:51 of the third. Coming to the ice, he swiped a puck just outside the Steel line, beat the Chicago defense into the zone, and stickhandled Dahlstrom down, to slide the puck into an open net. The Chicago goalie finished with 26 saves, while Jay Williams made 15 stops in the win.
The Hawks have one week to prepare for their next game. They host the Dubuque Fighting Saints on November 18th. Meet Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants during the game, presented by MidWestOne Bank.
