Houston Dynamo FC News Release
Already beset by injuries, the Houston Dynamo got an extra dose of bad news on Monday when midfielder Geoff Cameron was diagnosed with a ruptured right PCL suffered in Saturday's game against Chicago. Cameron will undergo surgery later this week and will miss the remainder of the season.
"We are very disappointed to lose an All-Star caliber player, and we feel especially bad for Geoff and the timing of this injury," Dynamo Chief Operating Officer Chris Canetti said. "We are confident he will come back healthy and be an impact player for us again next season."
Cameron, 24, was entering his first season as a starting midfielder after earning MLS Best XI honors as a defender in 2009. Earlier this year, the third-year pro earned his first cap for the United States national team. Cameron had appeared in 82 of the Dynamo's 89 games in all competitions since joining the team in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft.
In the mean time, Canetti indicated the Dynamo will look to add a midfielder to join the current first-choice quartet of Corey Ashe, Brad Davis, Brian Mullan, and Lovel Palmer.
"We've begun our search to find a midfielder who can step in and play a key role," Canetti said. "We just got the news about Geoff today, obviously, so it's going to take some time."
The Dynamo are now expected to be without four players due to injury and six total for Saturday night's home game against the Kansas City Wizards.
