Camden Riversharks News Release
CAMDEN, N.J.- The Camden Riversharks announced today that Adam Sherr of Oaklyn, N.J. has been named the Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) "Community All-Star".
In conjunction with the 2012 Atlantic League All-Star Game, presented by Horizon BCBSNJ, the Camden Riversharks conducted a search for the area's top "Community All-Star". Individuals were nominated based upon their leadership skills and community involvement.
Sherr will be honored for his dedication to the community on July 11, in a pre-game ceremony at the 2012 Atlantic League All-Star Game presented by Horizon BCBSNJ. In addition, Sherr will receive an Atlantic League All-Star jersey, four (4) tickets to the 2012 Atlantic League All-Star game presented by Horizon BCBSNJ and four (4) Riversharks season tickets for the 2013 season.
"When I saw the link to nominate a Community All-Star on the Riversharks' Facebook, Adam was the first person I thought of," said Jennifer Cassel, Sherr's friend who submitted the nomination. "He embodies exactly what a Community All-Star should be and inspires everyone around him to strive to do better. Everything he does is for the kids."
Since 2001, Sherr has volunteered at the Old First Reformed United Church of Christ. Through his volunteer work, Sherr has showcased his commitment to the community, acted as a role model for his peers and was able to work his way up to Treasurer of the Church.
Four years ago, he made an impact on his town's Little League by becoming the Director of the league's Snack Stand. Sherr put a healthy spin on your average snack stand by providing vegetarian and sugar-free menu items. His motto: "It's not just a snack stand, it's a place to eat", attracts families even when their kids are not playing in a game. In addition, his changes have brought in much needed money to the league to help defer costs to the players and their families.
In 2010, Sherr became the president of the Oaklyn Municipal Alliance Youth Service Commission. Through this organization, he brings drug-free and alcohol-free awareness to local schools by holding assemblies, dances, and other fun, safe events for the students.
Currently, he is the Director of Student Registration and Information at Penn's Nursing School. In this position, he serves as an Academic Advisor for Nursing students at all levels. Sherr is also a member of Penn's Student Health Insurance Advisory Committee, Student Intervention Services and on the Executive Committee for the Student Affairs Leadership Team.
The Riversharks are hosting the 2012 Atlantic League All-Star Game, presented by Horizon BCBSNJ, on Wednesday, July 11 at 7:05 p.m. as well as a celebrity softball game presented by "Jaws Youth Playbook". The softball game begins at 5 p.m. and includes legendary Philadelphia athletes including Ron "Jaws" Jaworski, Larry Bowa, Ike Reese and many more. To purchase tickets, call 1-866-SHARKS-9.
