Wichita Wild News Release
Wichita, KS. - The Wichita Wild is pleased to announce the re-signing of defensive lineman, Callahan "Rex" Bright for the 2013 season. This will be Bright's first full season for the Wild after joining the team just four games into the 2012 season.
Bright was born and raised in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, where he attended Rosemont Harriton High School. He was a standout high school football player, nationally recognized as one of the best defensive lineman in the country and on every college recruiter's radar. Bright eventually signed his letter of intent to Florida State and but would never play for the team because of academic ineligibility. Afterward, Bright enrolled at Butler County Community College in El Dorado, Kansas to play football, but before he could play a game he had to travel back to Pennsylvania for the birth of his first child.
Bright eventually worked his way back into football by playing for Shaw University located in Raleigh, North Carolina. He worked hard for two seasons on the scout team before regaining his eligibility in 2009. That year he registered 48 tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss and half a sack. After that season, Bright entered the NFL draft, but was not selected to any team.
Bright entered the Arena Football League (AFL) and over the course of a year and a half played for the Philadelphia Soul, New Orleans Voodoo and the Pittsburg Power before signing with the Wichita Wild midway through the 2012 season. Bright played in all seven of the remaining games for the Wild, tallying 33 total tackles, one and a half sacks and 2 forced fumbles.
"We're extremely glad to have Callahan back. We picked him up last year in the middle of the season and since then he's been a big difference maker," Wild GM, John Blazek said. "He brings great passion, enthusiasm and toughness to the Wild."
Bright rejoins the Wichita Wild in the CPIFL, the Champions Professional Indoor Football League, for the 2013 season, which is set to kick off March 9 when the Wild travel to Tulsa to take on the Oklahoma Defenders.
