California Victory News Release
SAN FRANCISCO (June 12, 2007) -- California Victory goalkeeper Eric Reed has been named to this week's United Soccer Leagues Team of the Week, following back-to-back shutouts against Vancouver and Minnesota.
Reed has shown superb form in recent weeks, recording 12 saves in the Victory's much-improved three-game unbeaten streak, including an outrageous one-handed block in the final minutes of last Saturday's game to secure a tie.
Reed joined the Victory as the club's first pick in the USL First Division College Player Draft, 2nd overall.
He was a consistent first-team starter at UCLA, and in 2005 was a first-team All-Pac-10 honoree after being ranked sixth in the nation in goals against average (0.60). While a Bruin, he played for USL-PDL side Southern California Seahorses, and was the 2006 PDL Goalkeeper of the Year after leading the league with a 0.62 goals against average.
Reed is the fourth California player this season to be named in the USL-1 Team of the Week, joining Mike Muñoz (May 1), Patrick Ianni and Yuri Morales (June 5).
The Victory are currently on the road, playing BYU Cougars tonight (Lamar Hunt US Open Cup first round), before league games at Atlanta Silverbacks, Rochester Raging Rhinos and Minnesota Thunder. The team returns home on June 28 to take on the Portland Timbers.
