California Cougars Announce Dates and Opponents for Home Opener and "School Day" Game

September 22, 2010 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) - California Cougars News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The California Cougars, Stockton and San Joaquin's very own Professional Indoor Soccer Team, announced the dates and opponents for both their home opener and their first ever "School Day" Game. The Cougars will open their season in Stockton at 3pm on Sunday, November 14th versus the defending PASL-Pro champs and Southern California rivals the San Diego Sockers. The Cougars will also host their "School Day" game on Friday, January 14th at 11am versus the Tacoma Stars. "We are excited to announce both our home opener and the date of our first ever 'School Day' game, and hope that the residents of Stockton and San Joaquin County mark their calendars for both", said Lee Neves, the Cougars Director of Marketing and Public Relations. "We're really excited about bringing the "School Day Game" concept to indoor soccer. We look forward to using the excitement of our sport to help spread the message of how important education, literacy and living a healthy lifestyle are to the school children of Stockton and San Joaquin County."

Said Neves about the Cougars Home Opener, "We couldn't ask for a better opponent than the San Diego Sockers. It's always fun to bring the defending champs down to earth to start off the new season. They may be regarded as the team to beat for the 2010-11 season, but considering the fact that San Diego's only contributions to Western Civilization have been the San Diego Chicken and 'Anchorman: the Legend of Ron Burgundy', I like our chances to bring the PASL-Pro Championship back to Stockton."

For just $7, students from participating schools will get a ticket to the 11 a.m. "School Day" game, and a chance to chat with the players in a pre-game Q&A Assembly focusing on literacy and healthy living. They also will get the ability to participate in the in-game entertainment. Each school that signs up for group tickets by December 1st will also get an assembly appearance from Mascot of the Cougars, "Tom Cat", and two of their favorite Cougar Players. In addition, each child who returns a healthy lifestyle and literacy packet to the School Day game (with parental signature) will receive a ticket to a future Cougars home game.

The Cougars are in the midst of a successful two year run on the field. The 2008-09 PASL-Pro Champions made it to the semi-finals of last year's play-offs and seek to make a return to the Championship final in the upcoming 2010-11 season.
