Calderon Returns to Barnstormers
March 1, 2023 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
The Iowa Barnstormers have re-signed defensive lineman Dave Calderon to the 2023 roster, Head Coach Dave Mogensen announced today.
Calderon (5-11, 260, Kutztown) returns to the Iowa Barnstormers for his second season with the team. During the 2022 season, Calderon appeared in 14 games with the Barnstormers where he collected 29.5 total tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, three pass breakups and one forced fumble.
Collegiately, Calderon began his career at the University of New Haven. In three seasons with the Chargers, Calderon appeared in 29 games and racked up 72 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, ten sacks, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery and earned his place on the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll during his junior season. Calderon completed his collegiate career at Kutztown University where he spent one season with the Golden Bears appearing in ten games and collecting 29 total tackles, ten tackles for loss, and one forced fumble.
"Dave was one of our team leaders in 2022, but he provided much more than just leadership," said Head Coach Mogensen. "He was near the league leaders in numerous categories along the defensive line at the midpoint of the season, if not for a buildup of some nagging injuries down the stretch Dave probably would have been on the All-IFL team. We expect "Brother Dave" to be one of the best defensive lineman in the league this season."
