Butte Daredevils Ready to Win Mining City Challenge

Butte, MT .... Butte Silver-Bow County Executive, Paul Babb and Butte Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marko Lucich officially challenged the Pikeville County Chief Executive, City Manager and Chamber President in a dual of their CBA Professional Basketball Teams.

The Butte Daredevils square off against the East Kentucky Miners Thursday, January 3rd and Friday January 4th at the Butte Civic Center. The challenge is the quarter point winner of the four game series will have the bragging rights to "Winner of the Mining City Challenge", and the best CBA team. Two games have already been played in Pikeville and the score is tied. The games in Butte will determine the winner and who will receive the local dish that the miners took for meals. If Butte wins they will receive "Fried potatoes and biscuits" and if Pikeville wins they will receive "Pasties".

Butte is a copper mining city and Pikeville mines deep coal. The city of Pikeville has approximately 6300 residents but the county has over 68,000. Pikeville is noted as the location of the battle between the Hatfield's and the McCoy's. Each year they celebrate Hillbilly Days. Butte is famous for mining and as the birth place of Evel Knievel and celebrates Evil Knievel Days each year. Butte has over 33,000 residents and is growing.

Joe Clark, owner of the Butte Daredevils, stated "Our players are ready to represent Butte and all our loyal fans. Even though we are short handed with only seven players, and the team is young, we are determined to win this for Butte." On January 3 rd any Butte Silver Bow employee or family member can buy general admission tickets for $4.00. On January 4th any student from Kennedy and JFK will be able to get buy one ticket and get one ticket free.

The Butte Daredevils are in the Western Conference and the East Kentucky Miners are in the Eastern Conference of the Continental Basketball Association, which has been in existence for over 63 years. Thirteen of the thirty Head Coaches last year in the NBA came from the CBA.
