Butte Daredevils News Release
Albany, NY (June 13, 2006) - The Butte Daredevils of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) have named Scott Carson as the first head coach in its franchise history. Carson, a resident of Bozeman, Montana, is a familiar name in the area as he has served as Assistant Coach for the Montana State University Bobcats since 1994. At Montana State, he and his coaching team compiled an overall record of 195-154, reached the Big Sky Finals in 1998, 2002, and winning the conference championship in 1996.
"We are proud to announce the signing of Coach Carson as the first Head Coach of the Butte Daredevils. Coach Carson is a veteran coach who has recruited and developed top-notch talent in the past, and we look to his expertise in setting up a winning team in Butte," stated Kermit Young, Director of Basketball Operations for Apex Sportstainment, a holding company for four CBA franchises, including the Butte Daredevils.
"Coach Carson is a well-respected coach who not only builds winning teams, but is able to teach the game of basketball to our up-and-coming players, which is a fundamental aspect of a developmental pro basketball program," said Joe Clark, General Manager of all four Apex franchises, including the Butte Daredevils.
Prior to his stint at Montana State, Carson served as an assistant coach at Central Connecticut State University (1991-1994), where he posted the best Division I record in five years. He also served as assistant coach at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon (1990-1991), where defensive philosophy resulted in the team achieving an undefeated season at 31-0. At Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana, he was a two-time winner for conference Coach of the Year as head coach (1985-1989), and served as athletic administrator (1987-1989).
Carson said, "This is a great opportunity, and I'm really excited to be joining a great organization from the ground floor in putting one of two CBA teams back in Montana. We'll put together an exciting program and help win a CBA championship."
