Butler BlueSox News Release
Butler, PA - January 21, 2013 - Butler-native Cody Herald will join his hometown team in the summer of 2013, looking to help the BlueSox another strong season. His Seton Hill University teammate, Brett Sullivan will also return to the mound at Pullman Park for the second consecutive summer.
Herald's strong offensive output last spring helped him into the starting lineup for 42 games as a freshman. He hit .312 in 141 at-bats, including 12 extra base hits, and two round-trippers.
"Cody is a hard nose versatile player that I look to play both in the outfield and middle infield this summer," said Butler manager Anthony Rebyanski.
He showed patience at the plate, drawing 14 walks and striking out just 16 times. Herald also exhibited his speed on the base paths by swiping 13 of an attempted 14 bases.
"Seton Hill plays with a lot of game speed, both on defense and on the base paths," said Rebyanski. "Cody is going to play right in with our offensive and base running strategies."
Seton Hill went 46-11 last season and no pitcher threw more innings than Sullivan, who hails from Avon, Ohio. He held opponents to just 24 earned runs over 77 innings for a 2.81 ERA. Sullivan also turned an excellent K:BB ratio, by striking out 46 and walking 13 hitters.
"Brett is a bulldog on the mound, which is the main reason we asked him to return in 2013," said Rebyanski. "I look for him to fight for one of our seven starting spots and as long as he is healthy, I don't see any reason why he can't jump into one of those spots."
In his time with the BlueSox last summer, Sullivan was 2-0 in five starts. His strongest outing came late in the summer when he threw seven shutout innings against Slippery Rock in front of 1200 fans at Pullman Park. Sullivan struck out a season-high six batters in the game as Butler went on to win 9-0. Seton Hill begins their 2013 season on F ebruary 16.
Players on the 2013 BlueSox will be revealed each Monday.
