Butler BlueSox News Release
Butler, PA - March 5, 2013 - Alongside the Prospect League, the Butler BlueSox has announced its schedule for the 2013 season. Opening Night is slated for Tuesday, May 28 at Pullman Park. Butler will play 60 games, including six home and six road contests against each of its five Eastern Division opponents.
"We are looking forward to another fun-filled summer at Pullman Park," said 'Wink' Robinson, part owner of the BlueSox.
The franchise set a record with over 20,000 fans attending games in 2012. The Prospect League, which is now entering its fifth season, averaged over 800 fans per game last year. It continues to be one of the best wooden-bat summer leagues in the nation.
"There is no question the BlueSox have established an identity with our Community," said Robinson.
"Our business partners and fans are very supportive of our organization. We will do our best to provide the best amateur baseball product in Western Pennsylvania." Season tickets are available now. Individual game tickets ranging from $6 to $8 will go on sale soon. Under a new playoff format, the top two teams from each division will play a best of three game series.
The winners will advance to the best of three game league championship. The BlueSox set a new season high-mark for wins last year, remaining in the playoff hunt until the final days of the season. In 2013, the BlueSox will begin with a four-game home stand before traveling to Richmond for their first road trip. The schedule also includes a six-game home stand over the July 4th weekend. Similar to last season, most Mondays will be league-wide off days. Babe, the BlueSox Ox, arrives at Pullman Park via helicopter prior to a game last season.
In addition to Butler, the Prospect League's Eastern Division includes teams from Chillicothe and Lorain, Ohio, Richmond, Indiana, Beckley, West Virginia, and Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. The Western Division ranges across Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri.
Butler will host the League's All-Star Game on July 17. Other festivities surrounding the event include a workout for MLB scouts and home run derby.
A full promotional schedule, including five fireworks games, will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
