Business as Usual

Published on February 7, 2003 under NBA G League (G League) News Release

While the NBA celebrates All-Star Weekend in Atlanta, it's business as usual in the National Basketball Development League, with six games on tap in five of the league's eight markets. Fayetteville and Mobile are knotted at the top of the standings, while Asheville is riding a modest winning streak in its bid to climb out of the cellar.

Who Needs Jam Session?

Who needs NBA Jam Session when you can get SpongeBob SquarePants? That's what the North Charleston Lowgators are banking on tonight when the Roanoke Dazzle visits the North Charleston Coliseum. Tipoff is at 7:15 p.m., but the doors open at 5 p.m. for children to have the opportunity to meet and greet the Nickelodeon superstar.

Old School All-Star

During his NBA career, Columbus Riverdragons head coach Jeff Malone received 1,561,766 NBA All-Star fan votes and appeared in two NBA All-Star games. Malone's chief concern this All-Star weekend is getting his team back to the .500 mark and staying in the hunt for the NBDL playoffs. With a victory at Huntsville Friday night, Columbus could possibly climb from sixth to third place in the standings.

Three Straight

Riding a modest two-game win streak, the Asheville Altitude is looking to win three in-a-row for the first time since very early in the season when the league-leading Fayetteville Patriots visit the Asheville Civic Center Friday. The Altitude has not won three consecutive games since Nov. 19, 21 and 23. Asheville has not won four straight games all season.

10 of 12

The Mobile Revelers, who visit Greenville Saturday afternoon, have won 10 of their last 12 games. Conversely, the Groove has lost nine of its last 12.

Browns

It's been a good year for the NBDL Browns. North Charleston forward Damone Brown recently completed a 10-day contract with the Toronto Raptors, while his teammate Tierre Brown has scored 20 points or more in seven of his last nine games. Fayetteville's Devin Brown spent the early part of the season with the San Antonio Spurs and Mobile's Ernest Brown put together a colossal outing Thursday night in a 107-95 overtime victory over Columbus, scoring 35 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
