Burlington Powers Their Way Past Pulaski

July 27, 2012 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Pulaski Mariners News Release

Pulaski, VA- Burlington defeated Pulaski for the second night in a row with a final score of 9-7 Friday night at Calfee Park.

Tied 1-1 going into the fourth, M's DH Dario Pizzano blasted a no out, solo shot over the center field fence giving his club the one run lead. However, the powerful bats of Burlington undermined his efforts as their corner infielders Patrick Leonard (11) and Mark Threkeld (4), blasted a pair of three-run homers in the top of the fifth resulting in a 7-2 Royals lead.

The Mariners did not allow the Royals big inning to deter their late inning efforts as they continued battling only to have a chance to win it in the bottom of the ninth. Unfortunately the M's could not capitalize with two outs and runners on first and second as cleanup batter Reggie Lawson grounded out to first to end the game.

On the upside for the M's, Peguero (1B, 2B, BB), Burin (2B, 1B), Lawson (1B, 1B), Castillo (1B, 1B), and Lara (3B, 2B) all had multi-hit nights.

Pulaski will take on Burlington for the last game of the series tomorrow, 7p.m., at Historic Calfee Park.
