Clinton, IA - Two great baseball traditions will jointly turn the page to the latest chapter in their long history on Thursday, May 27, when the Burlington Bees visit NelsonCorp Field to play the Clinton LumberKings. The 6:30 PM game marks the opener for both teams in their inaugural season as members of the Prospect Collegiate Baseball League.

After 58 and 64 years respectively in Minor League Baseball's Midwest League, the Bees and LumberKings were contracted out of professional ball at the end of the 2020 season.

A solid foundation, and successful organization immediately lead to invitations to join the Prospect League, which was formed in the summer of 2008.

The Bees have maintained a baseball presence in Burlington since 1889 when they played in the Central Interstate League. Clinton first began playing in 1895, as members of the Eastern Iowa League.

The team's rosters will feature players from across the country, who have remaining college eligibility. Burlington will be managed by former longtime Austin Peay State University head coach Gary McClure. Clinton will have Mount Mercy University head coach Jack Dahm at the helm.

The Bees and LumberKings will play one another 12 times within their 60 game 2021 schedule. Burlington's first home game is May 30 at 6:30 PM.

The addition of Burlington and Clinton, as well as teams in Johnstown, PA and Alton, IL makes the Prospect League a 16 team group. It covers a geographic region from Johnstown, PA in the east to Quincy, IL in the west. Clinton and DuPage, IL are the northern most teams. Cape Girardeau, MO is the furthest south.
