Burlington Bees Set Roster
May 27, 2021 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Burlington Bees News Release
The Burlington Bees have released their opening day roster for its inaugural Prospect Collegiate League season. Twenty-eight players with college eligibility remaining will make up the team.
The list is filled with local and national talent. Former Burlington High School standout Reece Wissinger, as well as former Fairfield Trojan slugger Austin Simpson will suit up for the Bees. Both played the 2021 collegiate season at nationally ranked Southeastern Community College. Wissinger was an all-region Iowa Community College Division II selection after leading the conference in saves.
SCC outfielder Lincoln Riley, who has signed to play for Eastern Illinois University is on the squad, as is Black Hawk pitcher Andrew Long. Both were also all region selections.
Western Illinois freshman Jacob Greenan will see time on the mound for Burlington. He played at Peoria Richwoods before signing with the Leathernecks.
Mason Land will be the Bees regular shortstop. He has just completed an outstanding all conference freshman season at 17th ranked Chattahoochee Valley Community College. Mason has transferred to national power Auburn University to continue his college career. Chattahoochee teammate Reid Halfacre will be joining him in Burlington for the summer.
Manager Gary McClure anticipates the Bees will be competitive with the other 15 teams in the league. He will be assisted by Mt. Mercy coach Owen Oreskovich and Howard College coach Scott Barnum.
The team will carry a typical roster of 15 pitchers, two catchers, seven infielders and four outfielders. Nineteen colleges and 14 different states are represented, plus Puerto Rico and Cuba.
The Bees open their season on the road in Clinton on May 27 at 6:30 PM.
