Burlington Bees Release 2019 Schedule

October 31, 2018 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA - Burlington begins its seventh year as the class A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim with two games on the road at the Quad Cities River Bandits April 4 and 5. The Bees home opener will be Saturday, April 6 at 5:00 PM, also against the Bandits.

The schedule again features eight fireworks nights sponsored by J & M Displays and Catfish Bend Casino. It includes a July 3rd show when the Bees host the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

A popular tradition continues with two 11:30 AM Kid's Days in April, and one in May, as the club brings in groups from area elementary and middle schools. Bees General Manager Kim Parker loves the organized chaos of the Kid's Days. "We love Kid's Days, because it is an opportunity for the club, and our sponsors, to give back to the communities in our area by providing free meals and free admission." Parker says. "The atmosphere is great. For some of the kids it is the first time they will see a professional baseball game. It is fun to watch them react"

As part of a brutal 30 games in 31 days in May, the Clinton Lumber Kings, newly affiliated with the Miami Marlins, visit Community Field May 13 for the first time in 2019. That begins the first of two seven game homestands for the Bees, their longest homestands of the year. The second coming as the last home dates of the season August 24 to 30.

First half Inter-Division play kicks off against Chicago Cubs affiliate South Bend. Chicago fans will have the opportunity to see young Cubs prospects first hand when the club comes to Burlington May 1 for three games.

Parker is looking forward to the Cubs coming to town, "It will be nice, because we only get to see them here every other year. There are a lot of Cub fans in the Burlington area."

The Detroit Tigers affiliate West Michigan White Caps arrive on the heels of that series to play three of their own.

After hosting, the Bees travel to the Eastern Division May 6 to 11 to play three games against the defending Midwest League Champion Bowling Green Hot Rods, followed by a three-game set in Dayton against the Dragons.

In the second half of the season Burlington welcomes the Padres' Fort Wayne TinCaps and the Indians' Lake County Captains for three games each beginning July 10. Burlington then immediately goes to Michigan to face the Blue Jays' Lansing Lugnuts and world series runner up Dodgers affiliate the Great Lakes Loons.

All Midwest League team schedules consist of a 140-game schedule, with 70 games slated on the road, and 70 at home. The season is split into two 70-game halves. In a wet and windy 2018 season the Bee lost 6 games to weather, playing just 134 contests.

South Bend host the Midwest League All-Star Game June 18.
