Bullpen Squanders Late Lead, Bombers Fall 3-2 to Terre Haute

June 16, 2011 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Dubois County Bombers News Release

The Dubois County Bombers entered Thursday on a three game losing streak, and for awhile it looked like it would end. The Bombers took a 2-0 lead into the eighth inning, but the bullpen prodigalized it, leading to a 3-2 win for the Terre Haute Rex.

Indiana State University lefthander Sean Manaea took the hill for the club, and for the second straight game, he was lights out. He threw seven scoreless innings, allowed just four hits, and struck out eight Rex hitters. Last Friday, Manaea also threw seven scoreless and struck out eight. His ERA dips to just 2.04 and he is fifth in the Prospect League with 17 strikeouts.

Manaea was relieved after seven in favor of Tommy Albrecht (Ripon College). Albrecht was not on his game tonight, allowing three runs in the bottom of the eighth. In his 1/3 inning of work, Albrecht allowed two hits, a walk, and threw two wild pitches. After the go-ahead run reached third base, Manager Grant Bellak elected to relieve Albrecht and put in lefty Jeremy Juliot (Vincennes University). The next Terre Haute batter, Joe Meggs, hit a sacrifice fly to center field that narrowly scored the runner on third, giving Terre Haute their first lead of the game.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Bombers were close to sending the game into extra innings. With one out, Mike Morrissette reached on an error. After a Kirby Campbell strikeout, pinch hitter T.J. Thomas singled to move Morrissette into scoring position. This brought Danny Poma to the plate, perhaps the Bombers' hottest hitter. Poma was aggressive, swinging at the first pitch, but this time it didn't pay off as he grounded out to the first baseman to end the game. Dubois County scattered six hits on the night, two of them coming from second baseman Mike Morrissette.

The Bombers will hit the road tomorrow, with a rematch against Terre Haute. On Saturday, they will return home for a game against the Springfield Sliders, who are just 2-9 so far this season. On June 11th, the Bombers plated six runs in the ninth to defeat the Sliders, 9-3.

Saturday will be Native American Blessing Night at League Stadium, presented by Winkler Wholesale Grocers. Buffalo Run will present a group of Native Americans, who will perform a traditional smudging ceremony before the game on the players. This will be a great window into another culture, and one that will surely interest people of all kinds. Saturday's game will start at 7:15 pm EDT.

The Bombers will also be at home on Sunday, which is Father's Day! All fathers will be let into the game at no charge! It's a double whammy of a deal on Sunday, as it will also be Family Sunday at the ballpark! Families of three will receive $1.00 off each ticket, and immediate families of any size will pay no more than $20 to get through the gate! Give your dad a great Father's Day, and bring him to the Bombers' game! Dubois County will take on the Springfield Sliders at 6:15 pm EDT.
