
Bullpen Falters Late In Loss At Rancho

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - The JetHawks rallied to tie the Rancho Cucamonga after falling behind early, but a five-run seventh propelled the Quakes to a 13-8 win on Wednesday night at LoanMart Field.
The Quakes (42-16, 77-51) sent nine batters to the plate in the seventh inning and scored their five runs on four hits and two walks. Cody Thomas delivered the tie-breaking two-run single, and Cristian Santan followed with another two-run hit.
All five runs in the seventh were charged to reliever Alexander Guillen (3-2) who took the loss after entering at the start of the inning for reliever Heath Holder. Holder had 3.2-scoreless innigns of relief to allow the JetHawks (32-26, 65-63) to get back into the game after falling behind early.
Rancho Cucamonga scored two in the first on Donovan Casey home run and added three more runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead against starter Antonio Santos.
Bret Boswell blasted a three-run home run in the third, his seventh as a JetHawk, to bring Lancaster within a run, but the Quakes followed with two more runs in the bottom of the third to chase Santos from the game. He was charged with seven runs (six earned) on eight hits over 2.1 innings. He walked four.
Carlos Herrera and Colton Welker brought the JetHawks back within a run with RBI-hits in the fourth inning. Brian Serven followed an Alan Trejo double with a single to tie the game in the fifth.
The JetHawks have now lost nine of their last 11 games. They will enter play on Thursday with a one-game lead on Inland Empire and three-game lead on Lake Elsinore for the South Division's final playoff spot. Twelve games remain in the regular season.
The series at LoanMart Field concludes on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Matt Dennis (7-12) starts for Lancaster opposite Max Gamboa (3-1).
