Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Batavia, NY - A stellar outing by Joe Wilson was wasted as the Muckdogs bullpen found another way to let the game slip away on Friday night. The Muckdogs blew a 4-0 lead and lost the game 4-3.
Wilson was solid, holding the Cardinals to 1 run in his 7 innings of work. He allowed just 4 hits and struck out 5 batters.
Zach Norman provided all the offense for the 'Dogs. He got things started in the 5th with a 2 run home run to left field and would add to the lead in the 6th with a RBI single. Norman finished the night 2-4 with 3 RBI.
Despite allowing a run in the 7th, the lead still looked safe as Luis Melendez turned to his bullpen. On this night, it would be Caleb MeConnell. McConnell allowed a single run in the 8th inning, but as he took the mound for the 9th, he totally blew up. Three straight singles would tie the game and end McConnell's night before he could retire a single Cardinal in the inning.
Matt Padilla took over and immediately let the bases loaded, on an attempted sacrifice bunt. Padilla tried to nail the lead runner, but was unsuccessful. Two hitters later, Kevin Estrada singled in the game winner.
The loss makes it 6 in a row for the slumping Muckdogs. Game two of the three game series is tonight, with a 5:05 PM start time.
