(PORT HURON, MICH.) - Center Greg Bullock has been named the new captain for the Port Huron Flags, following Ryan Gillis' trade to Bloomington, earlier this week.

Head Coach Stan Drulia selected Bullock for the position, based on his work ethic in practice, as well as his commitment to the team's success. "It was a very easy decision to make. Every day on the ice, Greg is a leader and I think the whole team would agree that it was a no-brainer," said Drulia.

Bullock brings 13 years of experience to the team, including two collegiate seasons and time in the American Hockey League, as well as in Germany, England and Italy. In his college seasons, at the University of Massachusetts - Lowell, he was named NCAA Rookie of the Year in 1993-94. The following year he claimed 1st Team All-American honors and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. While in England, he led the BISL in scoring.

When asked about his new position, Bullock said, "I was very honored. Anytime you're selected as a captain, it's obviously a great honor, because it shows how much confidence people have in you, as well as your experience in knowing what to do and say in certain situations. In accepting the responsibility, I'm hoping to help the team turn things around for the fans and everyone involved. "

Bullock has 5 years of experience as an assistant captain and notes that he has worked under a lot of good captains in his 11 years as a pro. He played for the Motor City Mechanics last season and appreciates the atmosphere that the Port Huron fans provide, as a true hockey city.

Steve Hildenbrand and Ryan Markham will maintain the roles of assistant captain. "Greg has been around pro hockey for a long time and he knows what he has to bring to the table every night. He's a hard worker who leads by example, and he's also a leader off the ice," said Markham.

Bullock will be available for post-game autographs on Friday, Nov. 10, when the Flags take on the Rockford IceHogs at McMorran Arena. The game begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Port Huron Flags are a community owned, nonprofit member club of the United Hockey League. For more information on the 2006-07 season, contact the front office at (810) 982-3524 or visit the website at www.porthuronflags.net.
